Growth of malware 'requires new anti-virus solutions'
New anti-virus strategies are required to help protect computers from the ever-growing number of online threats, according to an executive at Symantec.
Graham Ahearne, the company's manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, claimed some security vendors can add 20,000 new anti-virus signatures per day.
This means if users do not update their software for even a couple of hours, their computers could be vulnerable to "a lot of malware" that has appeared on the internet, he explained.
"One of the key things is that traditional anti-virus and its reactive nature of protection is becoming less and less exclusively capable of protecting machines. Some new strategies are needed," Mr Ahearne remarked.
He added the amount of malware on the web is set to keep increasing "all the time".
Earlier this month, Kaspersky Lab highlighted the issue by revealing nine in ten companies have been hit with at least one external IT threat in the past year.
