Officials in India have arrested six foreign nationals on suspicion of breaching internet security systems of unsuspecting online users in order to gain access to sensitive information.
The police reported that they had seized 14 laptops, seven memory sticks and 23 mobile phones linked with the crimes whereby internet users were duped into thinking they had won the lottery.
Furthermore, fake documents and cash were retrieved to be used as evidence in a case against those involved in the phishing scam.
In a statement, the police said that six men, who are all originally from Nigeria, will remain in custody until January 12th.
The arrest has been deemed significant in the crack down of e-crime in the region of India, which has been named by some as the scam capital.
Furthermore, police in the US are still trying to track down hacker responsible for breaking into the US Chamber of Commerce systems where sensitive data such as usernames and passwords were taken from.
