Three new policing e-crime hubs will be created to tackle the rising threat of cyber attacks in regions across the UK.
They will be launched in Yorkshire and the Humber, the north west and the east midlands and will work alongside the Metropolitan Police Centre e-crime Unit (PCeU).
Minister for crime and security James Brokenshire said: "Cyber crime is a threat locally and nationally, and every police force in the country has to deal with its impact on people and businesses in their area.
"As well as leading the fight in their regions, these units mark a significant step forward in developing a national response to cyber crime, which will be driven by the new National Crime Agency."
It follows news that a piece of cyber malware has been developed specifically to target internet banking.
The MitB (Man in the Browser) malware is able to intercept highly sensitive data between the consumer and the bank's website, and use it to carry out fraudulent transactions.
Cyber crime has been identified in the National Security Risk Assessment as a "tier one" threat, placing it on the same level as international terrorism or an international military crisis.
The government has granted £30 million over the next four years to improve the nation's capability to assess and deal with cyber attacks.
