Security threat statistics 'should act as wake-up call for businesses'
Company bosses attempting to eradicate online security threats from outside sources could be interested in new research.
Data collected by Kaspersky Lab, in partnership with B2B International, revealed that nine in ten businesses have experienced at least one IT menace in the past 12 months.
According to the organisation's Global IT Security Risks report, almost a third of companies lost valuable information as a result of the threats.
Researchers discovered that the most common threats made by external sources were viruses, spyware and a number of other malicious programmes.
Andrew Lintell, head of corporate sales at Kaspersky Lab, said: "Strong IT security across all business departments covering all endpoints is necessary to avoid major damage to a company."
Despite the findings, statistics revealed that only 70 per cent of companies had implemented anti-spyware protection across their business.
Earlier this month, the antivirus firm named TDSS TDL-4 malware as the most effective tool in eradicating online criminal activity.
