2012 will be the year of the cloud, says expert
Cloud computing solutions have had a significant impact on the way businesses operate in the 21st century.
This is according to one expert from Mozy, a specialist data backup solutions provider, who said that the cloud has fast become the "buzzword" among businesses internationally as more and more companies opt to store their data in the public virtualisation arena.
Claire Galbois-Alcaix, senior marketing manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at the company, said: "In 2011, we saw that it was a year where some of the main sectors decided that there were benefits associated with storing data in the cloud and people started to turn around to embrace cloud computing as a business asset. 2012 will see more organisations turning to the public cloud."
She added that this year will most likely be the time when most employers take to using cloud solutions as the technology becomes a mainstream IT system around the world.
According to online services provider Skytap, demand for simple and secure cloud computing has accelerated over the past year.
"The big trend that is starting to emerge is a new generation of recovery and restoration services," Ms Galbois-Alcaix commented.
She explained that there is now a converging of two types of services - disaster recovery and backup - which is also set to be a large trend for 2012 as an increasing number of businesses realise that the cloud can offer all of the benefits under one system.
John Dunn, security editor of Techworld magazine, recently commented that online security systems will increasingly turn to cloud solutions in the next year as the most effective option of keeping firewall systems up to date.
He explained that a growing trend is that security is being seen more as a product that can be bought from cloud providers instead of something that is run separately on a computer system.
