Agility - and not cost savings - is driving cloud growth, study finds
Agility is the main reason as to why businesses of all sizes are adopting cloud services, according to a new report.
The Cloud Industry Forum found that 53 per cent of the businesses it questioned believe that flexibility is cloud computing's biggest benefit.
This compares to only 16 per cent of companies which believe cost savings are their key driver in whether to use cloud hosting services, reports computerweekly.com.
Andy Burton, chairman of the Cloud Industry Forum, told the news provider that though it was once viewed as a money-saving exercise, cloud is now an agile technology.
"Over recent years the market has been primarily focusing on the cost savings afforded by cloud migration and yet … it is the agility given to businesses to deliver new services, access technology quickly and to offer solutions that they did not already have, that has driven initial adoption," he said.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers said earlier this month that cloud computing is on the cusp of "explosive growth".
