Cloud computing a top priority for CIOs in Australia and New Zealand, Gartner finds
Cloud hosting services are a top priority for chief information officers (CIOs) in Australia and New Zealand in 2011, according to a new report.
Gartner's Executive Programs 2011 CIO Agenda survey revealed that cloud computing and mobile technologies top the list of IT priorities over the coming year.
However, whereas virtualisation is second on the world list of technology priorities, it is only fourth in Australia and New Zealand.
John Roberts, vice-president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, said that with more companies looking to increase their revenue streams, IT decision makers are looking at ways in which they can streamline their own infrastructures.
"There is a push for growth in 2011 which is leading to a change in emphasis," he said.
"CIOs are looking to redefine the essential elements of IT from infrastructure, to cost structure, people and processes, reflecting their focus on getting closer to the business."
The results come after the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers said last week that cloud services are on the cusp of "explosive growth and rapid transformation".
