Cloud computing "dramatically decreases marginal costs" by giving firms on-demand access to computer applications.
That is according to Narinder Singh and Ben Kerschberg, writing for the Huffington Post, who said that cloud has become one of "the most important paradigm shifts" in the business world.
Additionally, the UK government could be set to turn to cloud computing in the coming year as it looks to reduce its outgoings, according to a research analyst.
Ovum also said that paying only for what is used is one of the biggest attractions for businesses and organisations.
Mr Singh and Mr Kerschberg added that expenditure reductions are crucial to the uptake in cloud technology.
"Business agility has become the number one reason that companies migrate to the cloud, easily outpacing each of the following: cutting costs; enabling a mobile workforce; reducing the costs of technology ownership; and converting capital expenditure to operating expenses," they told the news provider.
