Cloud hosting services 'poised for strong growth', report says
Cloud hosting services is "poised for strong growth", according to a new report that shows the cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS) will nearly treble in the next three years.
Gartner predicts that the IaaS sector will grow from $3.7 billion (£2.27 billion) this year to $10.5 billion in 2014, as more companies take advantage of the technology.
The report advised cloud services providers to "be prepared to pay attention to the different buyer constituencies" as they will all have different needs, while getting a food in the door in regards to sales can be helpful.
Lydia Leong, research vice-president at Gartner, said that as the technology is still at the beginning of the adoption cycle, there is plenty of revenue opportunity over the coming years.
"This is a rapidly evolving market that represents the transformation of IT infrastructure over ten to 20 years; however, the next five years represent a significant revenue opportunity — - as well as a critical period for vendors who need to lay their foundations for the future," she said.
It comes after the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers said that cloud is on the cusp of "explosive growth".
