Council and Cabinet Office adopt cloud computing scheme
The benefits of cloud computing have been recognised by Warwickshire County Council and the Cabinet Office, both of which are trialing a new email system
The pilot scheme will see them introduce the method to members of staff, allowing them to share information with their colleagues.
According to the local authority, the efficiency gains made by the move could save approximately £250,000 each year for the body.
Portfolio holder for finance, governance and IT at the council David Wright said: "It is an exciting venture with great benefits for staff. We look forward to seeing how it works in practice and how it improves our ways of working."
He explained this shows the authority's commitment to using technology in a way that could inspire other agencies around the country.
It follows a new study published by ABI Research, which predicted some 41 per cent of communications application businesses will have access to virtual infrastructure by 2016.
