Firms could require cloud hosting services following volcanic eruption
Cloud hosting services could be used by companies over the next few months to help combat problems caused by the volcano in Iceland, providing them with the ability to work from anywhere.
Alistair McKinnon, senior product manager of IP (internet protocol) multimedia at Virgin Media Business, said that businesses should have contingency plans for just in case people are unable to make it into work.
He believes cloud services, which could include collaborative tools, would be of great help for companies to maintain productivity.
Mr McKinnon added that applications that allow people to meet up virtually will come in use.
"If workers are unable to travel to meetings or to the office, the effects on project deadlines and productivity can be considerable," he said.
"Yet this can often be avoided by embracing remote collaboration tools, such as videoconferencing, teleconferencing and desktop sharing, which allow workers to meet up virtually."
The Grimsvotn volcano began erupting on May 21st at around 17:30 UTC.
