Companies that are not getting involved virtualisation are "at serious risk of being left behind" if they do not get involved now.
That is according to Keir Thomas, writing for cio.com.au, who told the news provider that virtualisation "offers something for everybody", adding that it isn't just for knowledgeable IT workers and for companies run on powerful servers.
Earlier this month, Blunt Blogger said that more companies are using desktop virtualisation as it provides a cost-effective computer system that also allows for more versatile working.
Christy Rose, writing on the site, said that employees will be able to access files from desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Mr Thomas added that making a back-up of virtualised machines is important just in case the system is attacked in some way.
"If you're running a virtual machine on a server to host your mail server, and it's brought down by a hack attack, then bringing things back to working order is as simple as restoring the backup files (assuming the vulnerability that allowed the hack is quickly addressed once things are up and running, of course)," he said.
