IBM has launched a new cloud services platform designed for the education sector, where people in the industry do not need expertise in running software.
The IBM SmartCloud for Education will help give teachers insights on student and institutional performance as well as enhancing researcher effectiveness.
Furthermore, the company believes it will help with student retention, graduation rates and grant funding and give students the benefit of "seamless access to virtual computer resources" - therefore enhancing the education they receive.
Michael King, vice-president of the IBM Global Education Industry, said that the introduction will lay the platform for education institutions.
"Cloud computing offers educational institutions the ability to transform learning processes to be more student-centred, as well as the potential to reduce costs through shared services," he said.
A similar platform, the SmartCloud Enterprise, was launched by IBM in Asia Pacific last week, giving infrastructure-as-a-service to companies in the area.
