Microsoft launches Office 365 cloud service
Microsoft has announced the global launch of its new Office 365 cloud services software.
The product is now commercially available in 40 countries following an extensive beta trial involving more than 200,000 organisations.
Described by Microsoft as a "game-changer" for businesses of all sizes, Office 365 enables users to hold virtual meetings and chat via instant messaging with people in the same office or on the other side of the world.
It combines a number of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Elia Wallen, owner of temporary housing provider Travelers Haven, said the software will help him save $100,000 (£63,000) per year and cut 30 hours of work per day from his 35 members of staff.
"Most importantly, my team is going to be able to work together better, no matter where they are," he added.
According to Microsoft, Office 365 will achieve 99.9 per cent uptime - a statement it has backed with a financial guarantee.
