Cloud hosting services look set to be used by more companies over the next few years after a new survey revealed that 39 per cent of small and medium-sized businesses will pay for cloud computing in the next three years.
Microsoft's SMB Cloud Adoption Study 2011 found that the number of firms using cloud hosting will grow by 34 per cent from the current 29 per cent.
Furthermore, larger businesses are more likely to pay for cloud services, with 56 per cent of companies with between 51 and 250 employees likely to pay for the technology over the next three years.
Marco Limena, vice-president of Business Channels, Worldwide Communications Sector at Microsoft, said that though cloud adoption will be gradual, it will increase.
"As cloud computing becomes more ubiquitous and SMBs' existing IT becomes outdated, adoption will grow rapidly," he said.
"Hosting service providers should consider the appropriate sales, delivery and support models to target larger SMB customers that are more likely to pay for cloud services."
John Orrock, president of GlobalOne, told inquirer.net last week that cloud computing is an "evolving IT outsourcing model".
