Nearly two-thirds of firms looking to introduce cloud services in next five years, report says
Cloud hosting services could be embraced by 60 per cent of companies over the next five years, according to a new survey.
IBM's report, which sought the views of 3,000 global chief information officers, said that this figure nearly doubles the number who expressed an interest in cloud services in the 2009 survey.
Furthermore, 73 per cent of those in the media and entertainment industry will look at increasing their focus on cloud.
Jeanette Horan, vice-president and chief information officer at IBM, said that the survey's figures show that those looking to adopt cloud computing will benefit in the long-term.
"This study provides key evidence of how the capabilities of IT are aligning perfectly with the aspirations of business leaders," she said.
"The winners will be those companies that understand the power of technologies like cloud, analytics and mobility, and can harness that power to transform their businesses."
New government targets on carbon emissions, published earlier this week, could also see a boost for cloud hosting services in the future.
