Spending on managed hosting and cloud computing is expected to reach $13 billion (£8.13 billion) by 2014 as more firms look for long-term cost benefits, according to a new report.
In-Stat found that software-as-a-service spending will surge by 112 per cent between 2010 and 2014, while infrastructure-as-a-service expenditure will rise to $4 billion by the same year.
Furthermore, its report found that small office and home office businesses are leading the way in adopting cloud computing services as they look to use the same IT infrastructure as larger companies.
Greg Potter, research analyst at In-Stat, said that healthcare in particular will see a rise in cloud computing adoption.
"Although spending across all sectors and size of business is projected to grow, there are some segments where growth will be staggering," he said.
"The professional services and healthcare verticals will see the largest growth in spending on cloud computing services, growing over 124 per cent between 2010 and 2014."
Ovum analyst Stephen Mann said earlier this month that software-as-a-service is the "biggest shift" in the IT product market in the last five years.
