Software as a service (SaaS) has the potential to have a significant impact on the way that individuals and companies use and buy IT services and products, it has been claimed.
According to Soeren von Varchmin, vice president for SaaS and service providers international at Parallels, SaaS should enable users to administer their own services so they do not always need to contact the vendor.
He said SaaS firms need to focus their attention on making the process more automated, which would also reduce the chance of human error having an adverse effect on customer service.
Mr von Varchmin explained that this could also help to minimise costs and pass savings on to the customer.
The expert commented: "Success is best achieved when the industry implements technology and processes that ensure reliability, breadth and quality of services."
He said open standards would help providers of SaaS to provide people with consistently high quality services.
A recent survey by Gartner revealed that nearly six in ten firms will maintain their current levels of SaaS over the next two years, while almost one-third plan to expand their uptake of the service.
