Organisations finalising their adoption of hosted cloud services as a means of improving their IT operations should ensure they are aware of the terms of the provider's service level agreement (SLA), one expert has argued.
Seth Robinson, one of the co-authors of the recently release CompTIA Trends in Cloud Computing report, suggested that businesses should ensure they focus on their relationship with the company they hire to install software.
He suggested that it was vital to ensure the terms of the SLA to ensure they are educated about their rights if any issues with power or security arise.
"But with the cloud, [firms are] trusting a significant portion of their IT to another provider ... [so] you may be ... more concerned with what the terms of that arrangement are," Mr Robinson remarked.
His suggestions were made after the second annual CompTIA report predicted that adoption of managed hosting would continue on a path of aggressive growth during the next few years.
In addition, findings revealed that overall understanding of the uses and benefits of cloud services have risen significantly, particularly among small enterprises and employees working outside the IT function.
Mr Robinson also suggested that companies should ensure they acquire the service from a reputable company, without being tempted to select the faster option of visiting an unknown website to start using the service immediately.
"All of a sudden, you may be a whole lot more concerned with what the terms of that arrangement are ... I think it's important to have a focus on the relationship with the provider," he explained.
Results from the CompTIA document also revealed that 72 per cent of businesses were more positive about cloud computing than they did one year ago, as a result of their increased knowledge regarding the benefits of using the service.
