More companies could require cloud hosting services after new research revealed that 62 per cent are concerned about security of data.
YouGov's survey, on behalf of Kaspersky Lab, found that 41 per cent of the IT managers and directors it asked will be looking to migrate their IT operations to cloud services.
However, a further 24 per cent have not considered the cloud as a possible option in terms of saving money on their computer departments, suggesting there is further room for scope in the coming years.
Andrew Lintell, corporate sales director for Kaspersky in the UK and Ireland, said that while cloud computing has "huge potential for streamlining IT operations", more businesses need to be taught as to how they can use it.
"Companies may be concerned about where data is stored and how they can keep it secure, but they should also view the positive gains," he said.
Research by Microsoft, published last week, revealed that four in ten small businesses in South Africa will be paying for at least one cloud service in the next three years.
