Businesses can use virtualisation to improve the green performance of their IT and technology systems, it has been claimed.
According to Mitchell Osak, managing director of Quanta Consulting, virtualisation allows for more efficient data centre architectures, which can lead to massive reductions in energy usage.
This is not only good for a company's coffers, but will also help firms to mitigate their carbon footprints, somewhat.
"Greening IT will be crucial to helping many organisations achieve their aggressive sustainability targets," he added.
"Managers can ill afford to ignore this underdeveloped area."
As well as improving the efficiency of systems, businesses looking to improve their environmental credentials will also need to buy greener tech in the future and improve their sustainability reporting across the entire value chain.
This will help to ensure that good work in one area is not undone by poor performance in another.
Earlier this week, Tim Schumann, chief executive of technology at IT firm Business Connexion said that virtualisation is a "panacea" that can help improve performance across all business sectors.
