Virtualisation 'can solve cloud security issues'
Virtualization technologies could help secure cloud computing environments, a technology expert has suggested.
Speaking at the RSA Security Conference in San Francisco this week, RSA head Art Coviello explained that security concerns remain among enterprises when it comes to moving data and applications into the cloud.
But Computerworld reports that he believes solutions are already at hand, thanks to the power of virtualization technology.
"Trust in the cloud is achievable today," he is reported to have said, explaining that the key is to conceptualise security in terms of software rather than physical infrastructures.
Such a theoretical leap would see security being moved away from corporate systems and closer to the actual information or processes being protected, Mr Coviello suggested.
"The IT stack is changing. Our boundaries are logical rather than physical. We can no longer depend on physical infrastructure for protection."
Meanwhile, VMware last month reported a huge jump in its fourth-quarter profits, which more than doubled year-on-year, thanks to increased business interest in cloud and virtualization services.
