Virtualisation 'is driving IT spending'

Spending on IT services is being driven by the uptake of virtualisation systems, it has been claimed.

Jean Marc Annonier, an analyst at IDC, claimed that the hardware spend slowed in 2009 as companies look to get more from their existing machines.

This comes after Gartner unveiled research indicating that software budgets across the world are likely to increase during 2010 by an average of 1.53 per cent.

He revealed that with more powerful hardware, companies are opting to push the lifetime their devices work for.

"Virtualisation is really driving IT spending as companies seek to reduce servers and consumer less power and energy," Mr Annonier commented.

He claimed that virtualisation is taking over on both the server and desktop side.

This comes after Gartner unveiled research indicating that software budgets across the world are likely to increase during 2010 by an average of 1.53 per cent.
