Firms could find that virtualisation is important technology for those looking for disaster recovery solutions, IT executives have suggested.
The State of Disaster Recovery survey conducted by Harris Interactive revealed that many IT executives have already set up virtualisation technology in the production setting.
However, it also noted that many are yet to use virtualisation for a disaster recovery situation.
By making use of virtual private servers, companies are able to backup data to an external location, which will enable operations to continue running with little latency in the event that the main data centre goes offline.
The report indicated that half of those involved in setting IT policy will be looking into virtualisation for its disaster recovery plans over the next two years.
This comes after data from the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and IBM revealed that 46 per cent of Wall Street IT professionals believe that cloud computing will alter business practices.
