Mobile broadband news: GBR leading smartphone adoption
British individuals using mobile broadband on their smartphone have paved the way for the international adoption of the technology, it has been suggested.
According to new data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, the advanced handsets accounted for 67 per cent of all mobile sales in the country during the last quarter.
Representing the fastest adoption of the technology across the 12 examined countries, the figure has been noted as among the reason Android dominated the market.
Sales of smartphones currently make up 50 per cent of all mobiles in Britain, the US, Australia and Germany, with Italy, France and Germany expected to join this list within the next three months.
Global consumer insight director Dominic Sunnebo said: "The two countries which sell the most smartphones … are also the same two where the highest proportion … are given free to consumers signing up to contract tariffs."
The figures emerge after Computer World UK revealed mobile network providers are set to block handsets stolen during the UK riots.
