What is Shared Hosting suitable for?
Traditional Shared web hosting involves a number of customers ‘sharing’ the resources of a single web server. It provides a relatively (compared to dedicated) low-cost avenue for individuals and businesses to set up their websites, but is not intended as a long-term solution for ‘business-critical’ or ‘high-availability’ sites that require almost constant uptime levels, and a Service Level Guarantee. Sites such as these need to be hosted in a Dedicated, Managed Hosting – or at the very least – VPS environment.
Which Plan should I choose?
If you are sure that Shared Web Hosting fits the bill, you need to locate a suitable Hostway plan type (e.g. Entry, Personal, Advanced, Professional) for your site. This decision will be determined by your budget, the size of your website (Disk Space in MB), the quantity of email accounts required, and the expected level of traffic for your website (measured in Gb). You also need to select the Operating System/platform that best meets your specific scripting or database support needs – the choice being essentially between Windows® 2003, Linux Debian or ColdFusion MX.
